Principal Welcome

Hello Parents and Families!

My name is Katy Schuerman and I am the Kindergarten through 6th grade Principal at Kenyon Wanamingo Schools. I moved into the Principal’s office after 23 fulfilling years in the classroom and am honored to join KWES and the Kenyon Wanamingo community.   I look forward to an exciting year of learning and growing with students, staff and families.   I am also excited to continue the work that has been started with PBIS to ensure that the KWES culture makes students and adults feel welcome, valued and safe.

I am committed to high levels of learning for every child, every day.  Every student is valued and worthy of our best effort.  We are fortunate to live in a community of dedicated, caring adults committed to helping students achieve at high levels.

I received my Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education and Spanish from St. Cloud State University, a Master’s of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of St. Thomas and my Education Specialist in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of St. Thomas as well.

I started my career with Minneapolis Public Schools where I worked as a Spanish Immersion Teacher for nine years.  After several years home with our young children, I returned to teaching in Northfield where I enjoyed 14 more years in the classroom as an immersion teacher.  I love being an educator and think a school full of children is a happy place to be!

My husband and I have three children, the oldest of whom is a sophomore at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.  Our daughter is a senior at Northfield High School and our youngest son is a sophomore at NHS.    My husband and I enjoy following our children’s activities, being outside during all times of the year and spending time with family and friends.

Please feel free to contact me anytime.  I look forward to working in partnership!

Respectfully,
Katy Schuerman
